Judge Hiljus worked for me as my law clerk when I served on the 10th District Court Bench in Pine City, Mn. He has appeared before me many times throughout his legal career. In short, this fellow is a rock! He is practical, steady and brilliant. He will be a solid judge and continue as a superior public servant. Governor Dayton has made a gem of an appointment. Jim Clifford, retired district court judge.

Typical judge. The media image potrays a stern, unquestionable authority figure, but in real life most of them look and act like the corporate attorneys they once were.

Given that much of the court system population in Kanabec Co resembles folks in "Justified" or "Swamp People" on cable, the new judge will need a folksy name and some understanding in his day to day activities. Appears to be a good appointment; he will need that sense of humor.
