The creation of the Big Ten hockey conference and the demise of the current WCHA will be looked at as sheer stupidity in years to come. From a money perspective, no post-season tournament can compare with the WCHA Final Five.

The whole premise of this article is flawed. There was no "choice" in the Gophers leaving the WCHA or the Big Ten forming a hockey conference. Big Ten bylaws mandate that if at least six member institutions offer a sport, then those programs must compete together under the auspices of the Big Ten conference. When Penn State became the sixth B10 school to offer men's hockey as a varsity sport, the other schools had to join together as a new conference. The idea that Minnesota & Wisconsin are leaving the WCHA in the lurch to chase money is simply incorrect.

You can always change a mandate. It was done to give Friday night programming to Big Ten Network from October into March. In other words, strictly for money.

The way that Minnesota sports teams have played over the last ten years, are you sure that they are even good enough in anything to remain in the Big Ten? They get beat in football by old I-AA teams, routinely lose basketball games to the "dirt farmer" types, and choke when it comes to big hockey games. Seems like they would fit in better in the MAC.

The Gophers will do just fine without UND on the schedule. I'm sure Gopher fans won't miss them very much.

Welcome to the world. Nothing will change until fans stop paying ridiculous prices to watch games.
