How about a gas tax to fix our deteriorating roads and bridges? Republicans seem to feel that taxpayer subsidies of highways is justified, but not for mass transit.

Won't raise taxes a penny on the super-rich, but no problem raising bus fares. Close the budget gap on the backs of the poor, a quarter at a time. That's leadership.

The 20 miles from lakeville to downtown Minneapolis cost me $3 in bus fare. Honestly they could raise it a dollar more each way and our 9 buses will remain full. $3 fare is a steal and thats why we ride the bus.

Ironic, a bunch of small governemnt GOP Reps want to tell the folks who do this as there business how to run system. Funny how when Goverment proposes regulation to protect the environment or public safety it is over reaching but this is somehow something else.

"Sen. Joe Gimse, R-Willmar, chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, noted that since the last fare increase in 2008 "virtually everything in everybody's life has gone up." So he must be planning on raising taxes also.

I feel that paying 30% of the cost of a service is more than fair and any push against raising the fee is not in the good spirit of paying your way in life.

Since when does the Legislature set fare prices? I believe Metro Transit and the Met Council are responsible for deciding how to use the money the Legislature gives them and what to charge transit consumers. And, to highlife 75, read the article to answer your question. Fares recover from 16-40% of the cost of transit, depending upon which form you take.
