Among those who have left or are leaving are legislators who care more about results than credit -- which brings us to education.

Aside from your comments regarding the qualities of Mark Dayton I find it amusing that we now have a goal of reading proficiency in/by the 3rd grade. That was once a reality yet since the 60s the gov't has continually encroached on the education system to the point where today we are hoping for reading proficiency in the 3rd grade and debating whether we should judge teachers based on how much the kids have learned. Doesn't that make anyone wonder what exactly we are doing? Look how far we have fallen in education yet we spend so much more money. On what? No teachers paycheck left behing is what.

As soon as we have separation of school and state will we see some improvement. Until then, more trillions will be spent and 20, 30 years from now, same talk, same discussion, no changes. All these dems getting out of there, I wonder how many thousands they cost me during their careers?

lancair's comment sums it all up. If the governor is such a champion of education, why the refusal to fund the payback monies to schools? Mine is going to have to borrow funds as a result.

Personally, I am happy to see both GOP Sen. Gen Olson of Minnetrista and DFL Rep. Mindy Greiling of Roseville retiring. I have seen both in action and both have very bad cases of big-ego disease. Big-ego disease is common among elected officials and seems to be acquired upon election to any public office. I have not noticed, however, that either have made that much of an impact--other than representing special interests.

@seaclear : you should already know the answer to your question. It's because the GOP is playing politics with that money. It already should go back to the schools, just not with the added strings attached the GOP wants.
