I am glad to see that he appears serious about this. Going to year round should save a ton of money. While he rightfully attributes the increased tuition to state cuts the response (passing it on to students) is wrong. I graduated from the U in the 70's and 2 kids have as well. My perception as a consumer is that it is still bloated and very inefficient. I would expect that as a learning institution, the U would have state of the art technology, processes and should be a model for the rest of the state. I hope that is the outcome.

I like Eric Kaler. He is not afraid to take difficult positions and make tough decisions. He is a good listener and thinker. He is not afraid to stand up to all the whiners. He is only 8 months into this job, but he has a solid handle on the prorates and is turning around this immense institution. I wish him well as he continues to navigate through the storm.

Massive payouts to his cronies. The man is a hypocrite of the worst type. I am outraged over these excessive payments and benefits to administrators. As a long term supporter of the U, I am ashamed to see what has been happening to a once great school.

Ask how many credits instructors are teaching. Get them in line with the other institutions in the state.

Something I have trouble understanding: a bright person goes to school to become a teacher or professor, spending 8 or more years and they immediately try to negotiate fewer classroom hours. Can't we find people who are qualified and want to interact with undergraduates?

I still don't buy that Maturi needs to be paid nearly $500,000 for fundraising. Pay him a much lower salary and give him a percentage of what he raises. Then there's accountability, and, if he's as good as advertised, he'll make his money. Instead, he's getting paid like a Big-10 Athletic Director who no longer has to do the heavy lifting of that job. This move smacked of "more of the same" from Kaler and the new U administration, and knocks down hope a little that anything is really going to change in terms of soaring administrative pay.
