I just watched with interest Senator Thompson from Lakeville. He is against the Vikings Deal beacause it uses a tax to collect money from the public and because it "redistribution of wealth" that will finance the stadium. I don't where he gets the redistribution of weath from because in my mind someone has to take something away from someone in order to redistribute it. The people that gamble give it up freely on their own volition. I've never heard such a ludicrous argument in my life. He may argue the fact that the city would tax people to collect their $150 million and that may be so, but no one is forcing them either to frequent the bars, restraunts, and hotels that would collect the tax most likely. If they don't want to pay they can simply stay home or not gamble. No one is forcing anyone. Did Senator Thompson vote yes for the budget after the shutdown last summer? I think he did. That budget and its cuts to Local Government Aid raised everyone's Property Taxes. He was for that, but not this. Sounds hypocritical to me.

2,000 permanent jobs, huh? These 2,000 positions happen to be current jobs at the metrodome. Just because we are moving them to a new building doesn't mean they are new.

I wish the StarTribune would ACCURATELY report that the Minneapolis City Council is NOT the deciding body on stadium funding in Minneapolis. If it's more than $10 million it goes to a referendum. Get it right, Strib.

this is no closer to happening than it was three months ago. A "deal?". In my business, there is no "deal" until you have a committment to pay for it. There is no committment here by neither the Minneapolis city council nor the state legislature. Both approvals are needed, and both bodies are disinclined to do it. This is just some charade designed by the face painters to create the illusion there is momentum when in acutality there is no more momentum than there has been. haha

"Vikings owner Zygi Wilf said that Thursday was a day he had looked forward to for the entire seven years he's owned the team." - I believe him: in today's pro-sports it's building a new stadium that gives the owner the big bucks, not operating the team. The owner makes money from naming rights, team value increase and surrounding development, and the public should pay for it. ndsulakesMar: "will YOU or the cities media REMIND everyone that RT Rybek & City council BEGGED for the stadium" - Correction: Rybak begged for it, and I beg my council man to insist on the charter prescribed referendum before we pay for it. Take your stadium to Arden Hills or Blaine if you can't stand democracy.
