Lets call this for what it is. A money grab by the city and their towing partners. I live in downtown St. Paul and there was no way there was 3 inches of anything down there along the curbs but that didn't stop them from running their plows along the street at 4:30 am and towing cars. Can't speak for other neighborhoods but I find it hard to believe there was such a massive amount that needed clearing especially with the above freezing temps doing the job today.

Ahuh. And here I was wondering why a snow emergency was declared for 2 inches of slush. Ignorant me.

Yesterday I saw three snow plows clearing the St Paul impound lot. I couldn't help but wonder if those plows would be better used in PLOWING CITY STREETS.

Certainly seems like it was not necessary to call a snow emergency.

As long as the city has impounded all these cars...let's check for valid insurance, driver's license and registration before letting the "onwers" drive off.

While City Hall often gets beat up for failing to get streets cleaned up after serious snow storms, St. Paul officials have made a poor knee-jerk decision invoking a snow emergency for a couple of inches of slush with forecasts calling for temperatures approaching 50 next week. It is a waste of taxpayers' money. I feel sorry for the 800 people who had cars towed and the 1,900 who were ticketed. They had their bank accounts skimmed needlessly.

Some people were towed off of streets that were already cleared, as well. Gotta love legalized extortion for tow companies.

This is just fine with me. So sick of my neighbors leaving their cars in the street and not bothering to move them. Maybe now they've learned their lesson.

Maybe if the city works really hard they can have all the snow (slush) cleared off the streets before it melts.

Looks like the St. Paul city coffers were a little light. Nothing like a little extra revenue from a towing frenzy. Glad Minneapolis didn't have the same budget shortfall.
