Congratulations to Rachel Banham for the deserving honor of being chosen Big 10 freshman of the year. I respect Banham's decision to attend Minnesota. She has mentioned several times in interviews how important family is to her, and playing for the Gophers allows her to share the collegiate basketball experience with family and friends in a way that wouldn't be possible if she had accepted one of the several scholarship offers she received from perennial Top Twenty programs. Banham's determination to help restore the Gophers to national prominence is admirable but, as Sunday's Penn State debacle demonsrated again, that desire will remain an impossible dream as long as Pam Borton is head coach. Rachel Banham is an All-America person, student and athlete who sadly has no chance of ever playing in a NCAA national championship game if she remains at Minnesota. Here's hoping GOPHER NATION appreciates Banham's home town loyalty.

SeaShark -- great comments, unfortunately for Rachel Banham & the rest of the young ladies on the U of M basketball team you have a lousy coach!!!! It's too bad the administration is willing to put up with the direction this program as well as the men's program has taken. Has any Big Ten school had two worse coaches than here at the U of Mediocrity? No hope for the future.
