70% of Minneapolis voters voted to require a referendum to pay 10 million or more for sports arenas. How can the state or the Mayor override this law?

Thank you to the Minneapolis City Council for continuing to listen to the interests of Minneapolis residents who overwhelmingly oppose redistributing the city's wealth to a NJ businessman's private business.

Does Cory Merrifield live in Minneapolis? Does Cory Merrifield vote and pay taxes in Minneapolis? Would Cory Merrifield be on the hook if Minneapolis chose to fund a stadium? Would be interesting to know the answers to these questions. He did say in a May 2011 City Pages that if a stadium wasn't approved in that session (i.e., LAST YEAR), that the Vikings would move to LA. I guess that scenario didn't pan out, did it? Should we still feel threatened?

This is great news! We have much higher priorities in our state right now than building yet-another stadium using taxpayer dollars.

The Minneapolis City Council was voted in by the people to vote for the people on the issues, not to send every vote to the people, because if that was the case why have a council at all????

If the only workable deal they have is hinging on the city of Minneapolis coughing up money for this, I'd say the Vikings stadium issue is finally dead. 0% chance it passes a referendum in the city. No chance, no how. However, you just know these greedy, slippery scumbags and their supporters are like water...constantly taking the path of least resistance. If the city kills the deal, the legislature will probably try to force the issue, except they'll try to increase the public contribution. You know they will try to do it. They want this stadium so badly they are willing to wipe their rear-end with the Constitution and public stewardship. They'll try to bypass a statewide referendum to get the Vikings their free money. Never relent, Minnesota! We can relent when either A.) the Vikings PAY FOR THEIR OWN STADIUM (which, actually, should be the ONLY reasonable option), B.) Revenue streams are supplied through non-public means, or C.) the team moves. Do not let these criminals take your money to enrich themselves.
