Based on his comments, I'd say it's over.

Mr. Gardenhire, consider this article and Morneau's comments your "being told otherwise". Your plans for him being your first baseman need to change, immediately.

Whatever happens, his life is WAY more important now than the Minn. Twins....all you negative bloggers on here,,,, I hope you feel good about everything you said....you have no idea of what he is going thru with these concussions, as each one is DIFFERENT..... good luck to Morneau and whatever his choice may be.....

When are the Twins going to be realistic about the future of not only Morneau, but Span as well. Smith had a chance to trade Span after his concussion to Washington for one of two of the best young pitchers in baseball, Drew Storen or Clippard. These two are better pitchers than any in the Twins organization. Thanks to Smith's idiocy they are stuck with Span who is not going to help this team regain it's competitiveness .

What did you expect...Smith is just another shoe clerk who was in over his head. I agree Justin probably would just like to hang it up. Can't blame him.

Now maybe both can all move on in life. Good grief its time to look for a good 1st baseman which we should have been doing since Morneau was tapped in the coconut at 2nd base. There is a also a reason that he Mauer and Cuddyer were rated so high on the most over paid players list. If that don't give you a bleeding hearts a clue about these non-performers nothing will and the loses will continue to mount.

I've thought Morneau's career was over for a while now. You know, voner26, Mauer is one thing, and Morneau's another. Mauer is incredibly frustrating to watch, and has become a 23 million dollar anchor that keeps this club from competing. Morneau is a guy who gave it everything, still gives it everything, and it just isn't enough anymore, due to multiple head injuries. This isn't about conditioning or heart. If anything, it's a demonstration of heart. Yes, it's probably time for him to go - but that's a hard call to make when you've been at the top.

Sounds like it's over. I will never forget the MVP year and Home Run Derby (Jason, lol). Thanks for everything, Justy, you were Justincredible. Now lets move on like we did when Harmon, Carew, and Kirby left.
