if you watch Izzo coach, he never gives a player an aggressive body posture nor an embarrassing word during a game. He may plead, but never scowl or turn his back on a player... Smith, on the other hand, very often does, especially so late in games... When Smith switched from the coach of the first half to the angry coach of the mid second half, the air went out of the balloon and players went to turnover land. Coincidence? I think not.

Thanks for the article Patrick. I love Izzo's teams - always have. They play smart, tough and with alot of passion. In spite of their grinding style I never find them boring like Wisconsin. There is something cookie-cutter about Wisconsin's style - the players seem like interchangeable parts. Well, hope the Gophers can close strong this season. Maybe there's an N.I.T. bid out there for us.

Tom Izzo is one of my favorite coaches in any sport, college or professional. Patrick and the previous posters are spot on. Izzo gets the most out of his squad by demanding maximum effort (defense and rebounding) and building toughness and discipline. It's no coincidence that his teams are frequently in the Final Four. This year Izzo has the horses to go all the way and I'm thinking he will.

The Gophers have been in many games, and a coach like Izzo, would have gotten them the wins. At crunch time the team looks lost as to what to do. They know they are suppose to use up the clock, but don't have an idea how or when to go to the basket off the slow style. Then the time out at the end and an early 3 is jacked up. Player says, may have shot a little soon, you think. Where's the coaching?

Izzo is ten times the coach Tubby is. The last 5 minutes of that game was the worst display of basketball I have seen at any level. Down right disgusting.

You could switch teams and Izzo would still beat Tubby every time. He just knows how to motivate his players to play smart and he out works Tubby with the refs.

Imagine how good Sampson would be under Izzo. He would be either be a monster under the hoop or on the far end of the bench.

I'm sure that Izzo is one of the better hoops coachs around right now, but they were very close to losing that game last night. Difference was that the Gophers do not have a mature player that should have controlled the play and tempo for the last 3-4 minutes. I'm not sure why the coach isn't able to handle that himself but Tubby does not seem to be the best in-game coach in the game. This should have been on him to control the end of this game.

Izzo has a much better track record than Tubby. Izzo is by far a much better coach that Tubby. Izzo also has better facilities and a private jet to go on recruiting trips. My only question to Gopher fans is this - Who else are you going to bring in that is better than Tubby? Tom Izzo will never come here, Coach K. will never come here, nor Roy Williams or Calipari. You fire Tubby and you're not going to get a NCAA championship power coach to replace him. Likely you'll get the basketball version of Tim Brewster.

Nice article Patrick; I agree whole heartedly. Although Clem Haskins had his faults, one thing that he did a very good job of was winning home games. A Clem Haskins coached team would NEVER have lost this game. Tubby, figure it out or go!!! We need a Tom Izzo in Minnesota! (easier said than done though).
