21 is a ridiculous number.. Especially because they'll screw it up somehow.

Not sure why the student athletes are included on this group. What have they done that will enable them to select the best choice for A.D.?

This sounds like a story from " The Onion". If I was trying to be funny, I could not make this stuff up. The new President has doubled down on poor decisions. The Regents will be afraid to admit they made a terrible mistake in the selection, but he is demonstrating incompetence.

This 21-member commitee is symptomatic of the historic dysfunction that ails the U's governance and sports programs. Go to places like Michigan, Texas or Floria and you'll find no more than three people entrusted to make key hiring decisions, and usually good ones (unlike at the U).

Where else would someone called "president" be forced to swallow the participation and opinions of so many irrelevant and unqualified do-gooders? Kaler is probably wondering what planet he landed on.

Let's hope that Pres. Kaler is appointing a 'committee' so that he is quieting any legacy dissent. Then he can work with is search firm, get great candidates and make the final decision. This is a 'for show' committee, not valuable to the final decision, just to create the illusion of input from ALL areas. Seriously, the starting quarterback writing the job description? Voice, not vote.

Please keep Maturi and Kaler OUT of the decision making process. I have seen enough of Kaler's decisions.

Why are we paying Kahler the "big bucks" to run the U and make tough decisions when all he does is create a costly "commission" headed by the same idiots who have run the U for the last decade. Apparently they have never heard the axiom, "if you keep doing what you're doing you can expect the same results."

Mark my Words: As an Alum of the UofMN, I will no longer hang up on you when I get phonecalls seeking donations, IF AND ONLY IF you pick the right person. I refused to donate time and a dime to you because Maturi was AD.

Can't you just see the newly hired CEO of a Fortune 500 company forming a 21 member search committee to hire a "division manager"? How long before the citizen's of MN will be on the hook for a huge severance package for Kahler when they finally decide they have had enough of this clown and we have to buy out his contract, unpaid sick leave, personal time off, vacation time, 25 years of health insurance, 25 years of life insurance, health club membership, library membership, moving expenses, yada yada yada?
