Great article - good to see a nice pic to go with it. I was always curious about the process, never experiencing it myself.

The only thing these people are victims of is their own arrogance in thinking it can't happen to them and that just because they see ice it must be safe.

I think its interesting the word victimized is used for this article. I can think of several more appropriate words.

It's winch, not wench. "They tow a crane with a wench to the spot, using either a wrecker truck or a four-wheeler, depending on ice thickness. "

One thing I agree with former Governor Ventura is "you can't legislate against stupid." What are these vehicles doing out on a lake when we haven't had any cold weather? These people are only "victims" of their own foolishness.

"Victimized?" Ha! What a ridiculous description propagated by the StarTribune. In no way is a person victimized by driving a two-ton vehicle on the ice and falling through.

dustball - It's winch, not wench. "They tow a crane with a wench to the spot, ------------------- Yeah, but as I live near a big lake I have a DREAT idea for a new business venture. "Wenches With Winches Vehicle Recovery".

Sometimes I drive around on thin ice hoping that I fall through to call in the wrecker, and help to stimulate the economy. How about another beer?

All those who pay full coverage car insurance should now feel good to know that they pay for those smart enough to sink their car into a winter lake. Seems to me that driving on a lake should only be covered for those who want pay that special coverage.
