Reusse: Twins, White Sox will battle for basement

  • Article by: PATRICK REUSSE , Star Tribune

While only Chicago's front office will admit to it, both teams are in rebuilding mode with no chance of making a run at the postseason.

I agree, Patrick. The cupboard is pretty bare. I just can't see 70 wins from this team.

Sounds like the approach the 2010 Vikings took. That worked out pretty well, I think.

I believe what will happen is the twins will get off to a terrible start but then make small run which will make things a little the end, it's too little and too late with a finish in 3rd in the division.

Wrong. Twins won't finish last. They'll win more if Morneau is the DH and Mauer plays first. Gardy will start the season with the journeymen as starters then ease in the new guys as the season goes on and the cream will rise to the top. If Capps is anywhere near a dependable closer, we'll be over five hundred. (guess i told him!)

Twins have made some aweful moves but there is still talent there. I am pretty sure Reusse said the same thing before the 87 and 91 seasons and every season last decade. He also said the same thing every other season so I guess he has been right more often than not but there are 4 other teams trying to win the divieion every year so predicting gloom is a safe bet. I am uncertain about Morneau as well but why would you say 2007 is the best the twins can hope for out of Mauer. He had a bad year last year. Get over it. There is no ceiling on that guy.

the theme song for the twins 2012 season is i like dreaming because the twins will finish in last place cleveland ,kc have some pretty good young players and of course twins pitching sucks big time if you think LIRIANO,BAKER,MARQUEIS,BLACKURN,AND MR HIT ME ALL OVER THE ball park PAVANO scare anybody think again and of course detroit will win the division by at least 10 games.

Reusse is right about his assessment on the Twins talent. But the reason Twins don't admit they're rebuilding is for marketing. They want to keep selling tickets and try to convince fans they are trying to win. They're hoping to get lucky with the M&M's health and hoping their journeymen veterans can buy them some time for a year or two until the next prospects are ready. The Twins are also probably eager for Morneau's contract to come off the books, but that is still a few years away. Unfortunately, we can probably expect a mediocre season.

Patrick is right on. What have the twins done to make anyone think we are any better going into this year than what we ended with last year? Mr Ryan is always saying, if this happens and if that guy does this and if that that guy does that...well guess what...if, if, if, doesn't win many games especially with 5 or six ifs in your starting lineup. Enjoy the ballpark experiance cause thats all they are selling again this year

The Twins refused to spend any money rebuilding the leagues worst Bullpen. What does that tell you??

The money spent on the Mauer contract will haunt this club for years to come...
