The democrats' biggest fear is if voters have to identify themselves, they'll never win another election.

There is no legitimate reason not to show an id - for crying out loud you can't buy a bottle of beer without it. Only liars and cheaters fear proving their identity.

Voter fraud = vote supression. A chilling effect on law abding citizens.

As Justice John Paul Stevens wrote in upholding Indiana’s voter-ID law in 2008, “flagrant examples of such fraud have been documented throughout this nation’s history by respected historians and journalists.”

If you use the same logic, you shouldn't need an ID to buy a gun, it is also a right guaranteed by the constitution, that could be denied to anyone without an ID.

There was no offer from Democrats for a "non-partisan compromise" when Dayton was vetoing voter ID bills. But when the issue is scheduled to go on the ballot -- and the vast majority of people in the state support it -- now, suddenly, Mark Ritchie and the Democrats are willing to find a compromise. This is quite simple: as is everything else in a Democracy, the majority wins. Period. A small minority of people do not get whatever they want at the expense of the majority. It just doesn't work that way. Put it on the ballot and let the people decide.

Dan McGrath is quoted as saying that "We've had cases of ineligible voters, convicted felons, voting when they shouldn't be." What he doesn't note is that Voter ID will not fix this problem because our IDs don't note our felon status.

Mr. von Spakovsky we are told says that voter ID can prevent a variety of abuses including double-voting by people registered in two states. But Voter ID will not solve that problem, at least until all states link their voter databases together (good luck implementing that, Mr. von Spakovsky.

It is sheer national insanity not to verify voters. On one hand, everybody cites 12 million illegal immigrants living among us. If only 10% vote, that is 1.2 million illegal votes in a country where Bush, Franken, and Dayton won by a few votes. Even worse, we have large, urban sanctuary cities where police and city employees cant even verify citizenship. Yeah, good luck at santuary city polling places :o) Who doesnt believe thousands arent voting illegally, especially when entitlements and "paths to citizenships" are the brass ring for electing certain politicos? NBC2 found evidence of widespread illegal voting in FLA, and that was just the primaries.....

It's only a high stakes game if there's a lot of it going on. If it only eliminates those 'who lose their wallets on election day' (what a dumb statement), well that number will be very small indeed. There are no real arguments for the DFL except that the current system encourages abuse and somehow they want to keep it that way. Wonder why? BTW - the Strib had an on-line poll the other day about this issue. What were the results? All previous polls have showed an overwhelming number of Minnesotans in favor of a voter ID law. Is our liberal Strib hiding something?
