This guy is an ethics nightmare! He would not know a conflict of interest if it hit him in the face.

There is an obvious conflict of interest when one's employer oversees funding allocations. Even if Sviggum's heart is in the right place, his work on the U's behalf will be severely compromised.

Sviggum and the rest of the Regents are why the U is a tier-two school. Throw all of them out!

Why is the Board of Regents wasting time debating the issue? Just dismiss him from the Board. He will largely be ineffectual anyway if he remains because someone will always play the "conflict of interest" card which is clear. He works for the Senate that determines how much money the Uof M receives, espcially in relation to the other public colleges in MN. Dismiss him from the Board. If Sviggum had any integrity he would resign and save people the drama. Enough said.

Sviggum probably just wants to stay on the board long enough to qualify for another public pension. Cushy jobs with big government pensions...that's his modus operandi.

Why is the Board wasting their time? Mr. Sviggum spent his career in the legislature cutting funding from the U of M. Now the Board is involved in a 2nd conflict of interest situation with him? Enough is enough Mr. Sviggum. Walk away.

House retirement salary, U.S. Farm Subsidies, UofM Humphrey School salary, Regent stipend, MN Senate salary: Sviggum has his hand in the public treasury...nothing wrong, just don't be a hypocrite about it. He more than anyone should realize that public service is honorable and he shouldn't criticize others who are paid well in government service.

It would almost make more sense if they tried to get Maturi moved to the Board of Regents.
