This is why a theocracy is so dangerous - when usually sane people form into groups and call for us to deny civil rights to other human beings. If this were about "race" or socioeconomic status, the Catholics and the Rabbinical Association and other religious do gooders would be falling all over themselves calling for the heads of anyone denying rights to those groups. But because this is about sexual orientation - nothing else - they fall back on archaic doctrine that has nothing to do with fact or reality. It's time we stop letting superstition and belief direct our actions and focus on facts - and the fact is that these PEOPLE deserve the same basic human rights as you and I - rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States (All men are created equal) - and that these religious groups are hypocrites and are denying basic human rights to a specific group of human beings. Whose next on their list?

Easy there, Palerider, the rabbis want a 'NO' vote. That's a good thing.

This just says that the Jews have gay clergy too. Marrying your gay lover isn't a "civil right" any more than marrying your sister is.

I find it ironic that those who preach and teach scripture can also publicly say that the very God (whom they claim as their God) who gave the Jews the Torah, the Prophets, the Psalms, and so much more somehow got the whole marriage deal wrong when He said "a man shall leave his mother and father and hold fast to his wife and the two will become one flesh" (Genesis 2:24). Like it or not, it is primarily people of "conscience and faith" who are opposed to same-sex marriage, because of their conviction that God has not changed his mind on this issue. And don't think Jesus was all about changing God's ideas either. The issue is not about denying civil-rights, as so-many would like to suggest; it's about defending and protecting the most fundamental of God-ordained institutions, the protection and strengthening of which is needed now more than ever, as our society collapses around us. I challenge anyone to read the entire Bible through - Genesis to Revelation - with an open heart and mind and see if you come to a different conclusion. Otherwise, God is not God but is a liar and a fake.

dentester, that's where you're wrong. Marrying a gay lover *is* a civil right (whereas marrying your sister is not a civil right because of the strictures of biology and the consequences of inbreeding). But the right wing- possibly including you- in Minnesota wants to deny a select segment of Minnesotans (homosexuals) the same civil rights that the majority of Minnesotans (non-homosexuals) enjoy. The Catholic Church wants to enforce its doctrines on everyone- Catholic or not, straight or gay. And because right wing politicians don't have the guts to do the jobs in a representative government to which they were elected, through cowardice they decided to shoot for mob rule and hope for the best (because if it passes, not their fault; if it fails, not their fault then, either).

@dentester....Isnt a sexual abuse of a young boy technically a homosexual act by a catholic priest? There are homosexual catholic priests. Your logic is flawed. Outlawing gay marriage is like outlawing a black man and white woman getting married...OH WAIT!!! THAT WAS ILLEGAL AT ONE POINT IN TIME WASNT IT??? And now its legal? So, does that mean archaic ways of thinking, change with the times that we are in? STOP THE PRESSES! Stupid laws get changed if they are proven to be immoral, discriminatory, and based in hate? Well that's news to me!

Our founding fathers were wise when creating a country that separated church and state.

Chaz_Mack. Do you really want to make scripture the basis of laws? Because there are quite a few (Deuteronomy 22:11 for starters) that aren't exactly adhered to these days. Otherwise, as you say, either God is a liar or a fake...

So, how does one become a Jew? I'm Catholic, but I'm willing to leave the Church. Please advise. Thanks.
