The former Viking looks like a slam dunk for the Hall of Fame, but so do a bunch of other receivers.

The football Hall of Fame is not big enough to let in the dozens of wide recievers like Cris Carter who's lofty but extremely overrated career number will be insignificant in 5 years because they will certainly be surpassed. Carter's contributions to the viking's during his career did little to improve anything but his own personal statistics and the only reason they improved late in his career is because Randy Moss was beingdouble and triple teamed freeing Carterto make even moremeaningless catches. Maybe if this average player stepped it up in just one of the two NFC Championship games the vikings lost (despite being favored in both by double-digits) he might have gotten more votes!!!

I feel bad that CC had to play for the Vikings who haven't been to the Super Bowl for decades (even at the time Chris played). How many HOF players would the Vikings have if we'd only get and win a Super Bowl once a decade.

Purplejoke - adequately named. If you spent some time studying the stats, Carter's most productive years were prior to Randy Moss' arrival. He had back to back 122 catch seasons in 94 & 95. He led the league in receiving TDs in 94, 97 and yes after Moss arrived in 99. He played the game with how many different QBs chucking him the rock 10-12 maybe... Gannon, McMahon, Moon, Johnson, Cunningham (twice), George and Culpepper. Those were the starting QBs. He caught passes from some quality relievers like, Salisbury, Brister and even Spergon Wynn. I always love the didn't win the big one argument. Tarkenton had it right, he could only wing 150 little ones.

Carter had the best hands of any receiver before or after that I've ever seen. Some players make you want to sit down and watch a game on TV you wouldn't normally watch----Chris Carter was one of those special players.

The only people who are going to be reading this are going to be Vikings fans, and you just wrote the entire article about why Carter SHOULDN'T be in the Hall. What are you thinking?

beitlibtFeb. 7, 12 7:59 AM

It's not a matter of if someone in the future will deserve being in the Hall as much as Carter does. If Andre Johnson and Larry Fitz deserve it, they'll get in. The only thing to look at is who on the list of candidates is most deserving, and there is no way some of those names are more deserving than Cris Carter....keep in mind, in order to put up the kind of numbers he did, you have to be a 100+ reception WR for 10-11 years....what NFL player even has that long of a career anymore?

Hey Rand...can you put together a Chris Carters Greatest Catches mix tape? I would love to see it and maybe you could help his cause.

The WHOLE issue is not whether CC is worthy of the HOF because he certainly is but it is the attitude and mentality of the PANEL of voters who determine WHO GETS IN. It has always been like that and probably always will be like that. If a player cops an attitude, peeves off a sportswriter, analysist, whatever, they never forget. If they are on the panel, the player is screwed. I think this is what happened to CC?

Micheal-remember Carter played when he had to fight for catches and QB's had to run for their lives. The guy's you mentioned are playing in an era of arena football.

gadflyFeb. 7, 1210:05 AM

People remember that Herman Moore broke the single-season catch record just one year after Carter set it, but they forget that Carter finished that season just one catch behind Moore, meaning he broke the record and matched it in consecutive seasons. Has any other receiver amassed 244 catches over two consecutive years (I don't know, I'm asking)?
