Joel Maturi's selection of Tim Brewster further crushed the football program, while Wisconsin thrived.

The guy set the football program back 10 years and he is going to get paid 381000 for another year. The guy should have been canned the day Brewster was. What happened at Wisconsin is very rare and so is Barry Alvarez.

Poor decisions and indecisions will haunt Maturi. But the new AD will also need to find a Sugar Daddy or two to help compete with the big bankrolls at OSU and Michigan.

Well said Patrick! My question is. Did President Kahler just start a February 2nd Minnesota Gopher Fools day? If this is for real, I suggest a solution: Season tickets holders for football, hockey, and basketball should not renew for 2013 until the Board of Regents rescind this offer. The precedent for the court case that follows when Joel files suit would be Jimmy Williams and Mr. Maturi could milk a few more $ out of us.

Does anyone know the rules for retirement/ years of service/ full benefits as an employee of the State of Minnesota? Could it be that our "retiring" AD needs an extra year to legally secure more benefits from the State of Minn?

I think @sunshine59 may be onto something. This contract for another year makes no sense without a larger context for it.

Yes, I agree job performance is a resolute determination of a legacy. I wanted Maturi gone, but I won't hate the man for trying. Geez, the U would owe him the money anyway, so might as well put him to work where he aint damaging the sports, right? It's not like we can trade him to Iowa for a player to be named later.

why were gopher fans excitedly celebrating a recruiting class ranked dead last in the B10?

@mockingyou - "why were gopher fans excitedly celebrating a recruiting class ranked dead last in the B10?" .............................. Because nobody looks at the recruiting class rankings when bowl season starts. They look at records.

I've been following Minnesota sports since 1987. Other than Ricky Foggie, I can't remember one decent player we've had. Yeah, you can blame the coaches if you want; but do it for recruiting such average players.
