In the bottom 10% and falling. What part of "severe neglect" of elderly do the repubs not get ? Tell grandma the "market forces" will give her safe care? Time for the election; these guys do not get it.

The elderly got us all to where we are today. And this is how we respect and treat them? I love dogs and kids, the elderly should have the same standing in our society. Table it? Shame on you.

Are you telling me there are NO laws that protects all people from severe neglect regardless of age. How about infants and children, do we need a special law for them. IMO we should make the penaltiies stiffer and ENFORCE existing laws. And to blame repubs is idiotic, this was a decision of law enforcement and a committee to strengthen the language in committee before going to the floor. Please all you haters get your facts right.

Grumpy42: I'm not clear on what we, commentators, are hating? Could you clarify that. Or is anyone that disagrees with you automatically a hater? BTW Law enforcement does not write the laws - they can only enforce the laws they are given. I do agree with you (therefore I'm not a hater) there needs to be tougher penalties.

What twits we have in St. Paul! Their allegiance is now quite evident - and it is to businesses and not those in need of protection. I'm no fan of unions (they're corrupt as well) but to table this bill and focus on "right to work" and removing seniority rights from teacher contracts? Shows they're worried about money and their lobbyists and their pocketbooks. Both parties are liable and deserving of blame!

Maybe if their corporate masters at ALEC wrote legislation protecting the elderly from abuse "our" legislators would act on it.

There have been many cases recently revealed that inspired this bill. Nursing home and hospital companies, as well as some bank executives appointed as trustees, have been exposed as having looted vulnerable adults while not meeting their lawful obligations. These powerful figures have influenced judges and other legal figures as well. No wonder this bill was shelved. No wonder Pawlenty's former Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, who did nothing but eliminate funding and protections for the elderly from these predators, is still working to protect the predators from having their reputations damaged for their predatory actions.

This is a no brainer GOP but I guess you have more important amendments to drafts. This legislature is a waste of time and my tax money!! Sad...
