Pricey hybrid battery alters repair vs. replace equation

At what point do you throw in the towel and replace the car -- when the cost of the repair is about the same as the value of the car?

Honda- Your trade in value will be almost nil, and just the tax and license on a $20k car will be over $2k so in effect you could argue that you are getting a battery for $1000. Drive it another 100k and you will be waaaaaay ahead. Montana- you change fluid regularly so the is little chance of "dirt or gunk". Take your vehicle to a qualified shop and don't add anything except Dexron transmission fluid.

And that's a big problem with hybrids (and electrics like the Dolt). The cost of battery replacement. You would have been WAY better off buying a regular gas car and would have likely paid much less for the same size and class. Now, after 8 years, you're thousand's of $$s poorer than you needed to be. Next time don't buy the hype.

I think a well-maintained transmission doesn't need Trans Tune to make it work. I concur with smarterthanu's advice. Apparently one must be very careful posting here these days. A little birdie tells me we won't see any more recipes for a while.
