Benched Zidlicky: 'I can't be quiet'

  • Article by: MICHAEL RUSSO , Star Tribune

The struggling defenseman, scratched for a third consecutive game, might waive his no-trade clause. Coach Mike Yeo didn't like his public stance.

Good for Zidlicky to finally speak up!!! Shame on Yeo for lying! If he is reading this he knows what he is lying about!!!

Screw the Wild... it's the goalies that are the problem! Harding is utterly pathetic if you saw him tonight. No way we can win a single game if he allows 5 crap goals in a game. Backstrom has allowed 3 goals or less in 1 of his last 7 games. Pathetic! HELLO 2012-2013 SEASON.

Zid, the numbers don't lie..... how about acting like a professional and go out and work harder to earn the trust of the team back. or you could just cry to the media. Good luck in Columbus

Interesting approach. Schulz has not played well at all and he dresses every night. If you aren't going to treat all players the same, you reap what you sow. Maybe its a good thing Scandella is in Houston. Seems like most of the Wild D is struggling through significant stretches -- Schulz, Zids, Lundin, Scandella, Zanon. The only who is consistently performing well is Spurgeon. Of course, with Yeo, it is always the lack of effort by the players. Does Russo carry his bags when they travel?

Russo's the best and Yeo didn't say it was a lack of effort. Coaches are big on system buy-in. Players who don't adapt don't play - and players who criticize coaches in public turn toxic quick. Outside of Glen Perkins, never saw one of these turn out good. Either you adapt and fit in, or talk to your agent about teams you will accept a trade to. Zid's rookie media move damaged his value and ties Fletchers hands.

Both Zids and Zanon should be released to make way for the youth. Both these guys are overpaid non productive players.

Being neutral going into this discussion, I think that what Yeo said in the last paragrapgh is correct - the players decide who plays. If he was a factor at all, at either end of the rink, full strength, power play, penalty kill, etc. you can be sure that he would be playing. I don't think that he understands that in order to be a factor on a team playing systems that you have to help that system be as good as it can be, if that happens then that will open the door for some individual skills to be showcased. Basically they do not see eye-to-eye and it is all over for him playing here. Hope he really does well where ever he ends up but at this point that will probably be europe.

Its a shame that Zidlicky couldn't imitate the same professional demeanor exhibited by Zanon and Lundin when they aren't playing. He basically crapped all over his team mates when he complains that he doesn't get enough ice time with the first units. The skills necessary to be a professional athlete go far beyond the arena and Marek has yet to figure that one out. What a shame because he certainly has the capabilities to help this team.

Zidlicky is not anywhere near as good as he thinks he is. His body language is that of a very arrogant person. Unfortunately, he is a #3 or 4 defenseman at best, no matter where is playing in the NHL. Maybe better go back to Europe so he can be the star of a second division team there.
