My folks took me on a family vacation to Florida in 1972. We booked a spot on a 60' charter fishing boat out of Clearwater Fla. An older gentleman recognized us as fellow Minnesotans and introduced himself. I still remember he said he ran Ebners bait in Elk River. He took me under his wing and showed me that there was more room to cast off the fantail. He could cast further, with his own equipment than I could with the weed whip string on the rentals, but he told me if I held it up off the bottom more I might catch a shark. It was he who hooked about a four footer and he kept the fight on the QT because if the mate caught us he would cut the line. He got the thing onboard and I'll never forget that monster thrashing around on deck. The mate was indeed not pleased but we had to admit it was the high point of the outing. Hang in there Joanne, bait shops like yours are the last vestiges of the Minnesota we grew up in!

Thanks Paul Levy for a great story with an outdoor twist. Here is hoping Ebner's Bait has a busy summer that makes up for this winters sluggish bait sales. Hang in there Ebner's Bait. Small enterprising businesses like Ebner's is what makes our America so great! It is the Davids that make our country strong, not the Goliath's. Ebner's Bait with their long history of serving the public is part of our local heritage and history. it would be very sad to see that end.

Hang in there Joanne...been going to Ebners and Vados in Spring Lake Park for over 30 years. As far as I'm concerned, two of the best bait stores around. Good luck Joanne...Lots of people consider Ebners a historic landmark...so should the state.

When I was a kid I used to visit my uncles place on the Mississippi just outside Elk River. We always stopped at Edners for bait. I hope the keep on keeping on.
