By the total number of teams that make the postseason, that's true...but you no longer need to be great to get to the postseason...and win the world series. You just need to be a little better than average, 85 or 86 wins will probably get you in. Then once you're in the postseason, in baseball (and unlike other sports, especially the NFL and NBA), anybody can win it.

Let's just take the NFL for example. The Packers barely made the playoffs last year, got hot, and won it all. This year, the Packers had the best record and got bounced in their first game. As usual, anonymous bloggers misremember most things.

BTW 'eat': 90 wins is what it took to get to the post season last year. And I doubt less than that will get you into the post season in the American League this year.
