Why not take the bus and save tax dollars and energy?

90% of this Cabbies fares are paid by a third party? Likely a social service agency. Or government agency. Have we learned nothing about people not having some skin in the game? Sounds like a free ride for the fare might not work out so well for the driver and owner.

My guess is the cabbies complaining about not being able to feed their families, most likely have way too many mouths to feed.

It sounds like some of the Cabbies are lving outside there means. Which is not uncommon.

Yeah, shame on these drivers for not being able to live in an expensive urban metropolis on a $25,000 a year job. (Sarcasm, for those of you who don't get it!)

statsman - Trust me when I tell you that driving a cab has never been an ideal job to try to raise a family on. Sure, if you want to work 70 hours per week, you may be able to eek out enough to house your kids in a meager apartment and shop at Wal-Mart and Aldi. It has only gotten harder with the explosion in the number of taxis on Twin Cities' streets. Ironically, it is the same east African immigrants that decry the poor working conditions that keep migrating to this industry. Taxi Services Inc. has done what they could to insure their drivers can make at least a reasonable living. For all the drivers that have left in protest, there are 3 times the number of drivers who would like to be in their shoes.
