Here's the title of an article on the NFL's website: "Morris turned down Vikings for lesser post with 'Skins." So, the cat is out of the bag! Raheem Morris would prefer to be a secondary coach for the Redskins rather than DC for the Vikings. That certainly does not bode well for getting free agents to sign with this team.

Look i have been a vike fan forever. I'm not expecting this season to be a 12-4 miracle. I just want the vikes to be competetive. Have a good draft, get some good young FA, and deepen their roster. Last season, for the first time ever, i was rooting for the vikes to loose, so they could get a better draft choice. I don't want to ever root against them again. It was wonderful a couple of seasons ago, when the vikes were so close to the superbowl. That team got old quick, and had no one to step up. If it is going to rebuild, do it right. Youth, and depth. Give us something to root for. Not just now, but for seasons to come. GO VIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why the pessimism in this article? Look, I don't expect the Vikings to land 10 new starters with their 10 draft picks. However, they ought to land at least 2 immediate starters, and 4-5 eventual starters out of that pool of picks. That said, the determining factor in how competitive the Vikings will be next year is who they land in free agency. They have too many holes to fill via the draft, and FA comes first (thankfully). They ought to be planning to fill as many holes as possible via FA, and then turn their attention to addressing the rest of their needs in the draft. This team was not as bad as its 3-13 record, and was literally four plays from being 7-9. They do need help, but competing for a playoff spot next year is not out of the question if they do well enough in the draft and FA, and Peterson returns 90-95% healthy. This team has nowhere to go but up, and anything less than a .500 season next year will be a disappointment.

fgwipple-so I guess 4 or 5 new starters makes Frazier a legitimate NFL coach. Did we forget he matched the worst record in Vike history?

Negative Nellie here..I wish i could be as postive as some you folks seem to be.. I just can't seem to get my arms around the Lez (steckel) Fraizer and Spielman regime. I truly believe Frazier's in over his head and Speilman....Well IMO he has more to do with this organization's demise than anyone. 2012 Vikings maybe 5-11.

Born2play. Raheem Morris was the head coach of a team that quit on him last year. The Vikes already have one coach (Singletary) who had the same thing happen to him 2 years ago. For those two guys they are coaching about where they should be coaching. What blew me away was that both of them were even in the running for a DC position with the Vikes to begin with. They're both a couple of loose cannons. Frazier might be able to deal with one fire starter on this team of coaches but not two.

You have a premier RB coming back from surgery and a young QB learning on the job...priority #1: Offensive line. You would have been better off rushing the passer with 11 guys than having that poor excuse for a secondary try to defend passes. #2 Defensive secondary Whether it was the QB not having time or just bad routes, you need receivers who can get further than 10 yards down the field. #3 receivers. This doesn't seem like rocket science.

oh please! There are so many holes in this team, one fix can not possibly fill them all! We'll still be watching losers next year.

There is room for hope... yes, their record was 3-13, but 10 of those losses was by a touchdown or less...a #3 overall pick and 1-2 high level free agents could make up that difference...It really all depends on AP recovering from surgery...Ponder will be ALOT better after taking his lumps this season and finally having an offseason to work on getting comfortable in the offense and with players & coaches...Bears are getting old, Packers window is starting to close, but the Lions will be a force for years to come..Vikes hit their low and will start to climb back..

Yes, the Vikings have fallen but not that far. They were within a touchdown in 9 of of 13 losses and had the lead in many of them. Left tackle(Kalil) is a no brainer with the first pick as there is a good crop of FA wide receivers to choose from to fill that position. Then a FA free safety and/or corner for the "D" along with the remaining 2nd, 3rd round picks etc. and the Vikes can contend again next year if they are smart in the offseason. The big question is signing free agents when we have a front and center stadium issue. The other side of that coin is that the stadium issue is more easily resolved when you have a quality product to market it. Critical year for the Vikes !
