Vikings' new hire Williams not rushing things

In his first week on the job, Alan Williams is focusing on what needs to be done in the present rather than on specific details that can wait for the future.

I don't want to be negative...what the hell I can't help it. When is this team going to stop using the lock out as an excuse? When are they going to stop looking at the present and look to the future? They're giving everyone a clean slate? I wish I could absolutely suck at my job and get a clean slate every year. I heard they are already shopping the third pick. The last time they moved down we ended up with Chris Cook and that was one of their better efforts! I heard they may go after Manning. Now I realize a lot of that talk could just be sport writers speculating but if any of it is true then it is obvious these guys have learned nothing this year.

Vikings signed a LB named Solomon Elimimian. I a very proud and loyal Vikings fan. I'm from Canada, and this signing is SICK!! This kid can play ball. Voted by the players in the CFL as the hardest hitter two years in a row, and this kid doesn't miss tackles. Awesome signing. Trust me, you'll hear this kids name LOTS!!! He's 25, and the sky is the limit!! He will be playing for sure!!

Why are we talking about schemes, wrinkles, and philosophies? Am I the only one that acknowledges none of those things matter until you get PLAYERS who are of NFL quality? To make an analogy, talking about schemes, wrinkles, and philosophies is like someone discussing what their book will be about before they've developed an ability to write at an adequately high level. First you learn how to write professionally, THEN you can worry about the contents of your book. With the Vikings, the first thing they need to do is throw out the bad rubbish on defense and bring in younger, stronger, faster players who are hungry to win. THEN you worry about your schemes and wrinkles. I don't care how creative this guy gets, if he's forced to work with Cedric Griffin and Antoine Winfield (not to mention that sorry lot of safeties they've currently got), they won't be one iota improved from last year.

So he is short. Big things can come in small packages. Darrin Nelson was only 5'9". weneedbud said I don't want to be negative... Well then don't be. You guys who like to whine about everything never seem to offer up who you think could do the job better.

There are 18 unrestricted free agents this year and we have at least 10 draft picks (more if we shop the 3rd pick). My guess is that most, if not all, UFAs are gone and we have an opportunity to get some really quality players through the draft and free agency. The coaches realize 2011 was garbage and getting into the Senior Bowl and working this early in the year shows their commitment to making the team stronger this year. Ponder, Musgrave, and Frazier are no longer rookies and we have the opportunity to be one of the youngest teams in the league. NFC North champions in 2013 baby!

Williams will do a good job, i'm thinking. He will work great with Frazier and that says a lot. The key is, like other posters mentioned, is quality players. We have to get better players, bottom line, IMO.

did cjvirnig just insult Winfield? Winfield is a good corner, balanced between tackling and coverage. He's injury prone and older now but still good when healthy, don't dare put him at the level of Griffin, who just plain sucks.

Solomon Elimimian is an EXCELLENT pick-up. We already have holes in the LBs. I personally watched him live in Hawaii and he is an absolute beast for tackling, running down the ball carriers, as well as pass coverage. He could start on the existing roster today.

I laugh at you posters who share the same off season blind optimism year after year. This team is still running with the same bad personnel department, and essentially, the same flawed coaches and schemes that has generated the very least out of its players.
