Unbelievable. In the heart of "Cut Federal Spending" Michele Bachmann's district we see another pork barrel federal spending project. This bridge could be built for a lot less money and yet apparently Bachmann sees no need for Fiscal Conservatism... And then we have Klobuchar and Franken supporting Bachmann getting a huge, overly expensive bridge. Are Klobuchar and Franken hoping to be buddy buddy with Bachmann so she'll be nice to them and President Obama??? The Democrats had a chance to show some Fiscal Conservatism to Bachmann and give her only the most Fiscally Conservative bridge possible but they just couldn't help but shovel more taxpayer money to the most Fiscally Conservative District in Minnesota.

ARRey sez: With Franken and Klobuchar backing this project, how will Bachmann follow suit? It would seem out of character for her to actually be building bridges instead of tearing them down.

Glad to hear it. Progress is good and this will create jobs and improve safety and clean the environment from the huge traffic delays in downtown Stillwater. This is a win for for both states.

I understand the need for the bridge, even though it is currently a luxury we can't afford. But why bother having a Wild and Scenic Waterways law, if it can be by-passed? What is the point? If you aren't going to protect the river / scenery, I would like some money back for all the failed legislation that we pay-through-the-nose for. Maybe if the bridge design is attractive enough, it will be considered an asset. Paris's Eiffel Tower could have been built differently, for example, and people might consider it an eye-sore, instead of an icon. Locally, the old Gooseberry Falls bridge was beautiful, the replacement is only functional, unfortunately. Wait until you can get it right, balancing both budget and design.

Put a toll booth on it to collect from Wisconsinites who do not pay taxes to maintain our roads, and I will gladly sign up...

Amy had a big negative for me last week when I found out she co-sponsored SOPA, but she's back in the win column with that vote.

I thought Wisconsin only invests in infrastructure that pays for itself with user fees. Are they putting up a toll to fund their part of it?

Thank you Senator Klobouchar - This is really needed for safety sake as well as time saving. Minnesota is pretty backward when it comes to improvements in our roads and freeways and bridges - - we need this bridge and the longer we wait the more lives are at stake and the more expensive it becomes - Amy has the foresight to see this and is heading the campaign to get the bridge and the silent majority is thanking her. It's the vocal minority who is blasting this with a million excuses as to why it should not be built - Minnesota needsw this bridge before we get another collapse and lose lives. Wake up you people who are bad mouthing this bridge. Thank you Amy!

This is great news if you're living in Wisconsin and work in the Twin Cities. Thank you Minnesota for your 360 million share. I wouldn't want to spend that money on projects that would help Minnesotans. There is nothing in that part of Western Wisconsin that would benefit Minnesota, unless they plan to build the new Viking stadium in Somerset.

After having crossed the old lift bridge for almost my entire 60 some years to visit relatives in Wisconsin, I think it's time. I would have liked to see something a little more in tune with the river area, perhaps more vintage looking. To put something ultramodern looking next to a town that is trying to capitalize on it history may not be the best match. Don't have a problem with the height. Bluff to bluff works. Always thought highway 36 should go straight across. It seemed to me that it was probably the intent once looking at the arial view. Also if you're going to do something don't do it on the cheap. Do it right with the future in mind.
