There's no need to be mad that the record for latest below zero wasn't broken. This year already has the warmest start to January on record, so why should _all_ the records be during one season?

Because mouthwash, break a record for high temp and then two weeks later break a record for low temps. Talk about extreme...that would be something in the history books.

Technically, the record was broken. The previous record occurred in the morning of the 18th, not the evening. Since the evening is later in the day, the record is broken. Finally, if you wish to only list the record date, it is at least tied, so 2012 does show up in the record books as the latest date - ties are shown.
