The team's preferred Minneapolis site for its new home faces challenges -- not the least of which will be how it affects that magnifcent church. Just ask Louie from Lee's.

Sorry, that should have read " can elegantly" for "elegant" in previous post.

Yeah, who needs tailgating or a good fan experience. Bring on the congested parking ramps!

The way the your Vikes have played, it wouldn't hurt the [masses] to attend Mass before a Vikings game.

The thing we have to consider is what we now worship: Once, we believed in community and worshiped at churches. Today, we believe in economics and worship money. If it were other wise, there would be absolutely no question about a stadium being built to dwarf an icon basilica - it would be so out of the question, any politician even suggesting it would be gone next election... So we should accept what we have become, tear down the Basilica and replace it with a restaurant complex that can serve the new icon, the Charmin Tissue stadium? (or the name of whoever pays the most money for the naming rights)... Or do we say - hold it... money as a priority here is way out of proportion on this, community and icons take priority, and take the stadium elsewhere... It really comes down to what you worship - community of people or of money.

At least it will be an easy trip after a Vikings game to ask "Why, God, why?"

Hobie2 you get the award for post-of-the-week. Nice article Reusse, very informative.

I worship at the altar of the NFL. Sure, my "prayers" were only answered 3 times this year (well, 4 if you count the Packers loss), but that's 3 more times than the Basilica has ever answered. Maybe you Tebow lovers can pray for the Vikings to not build near the Basilica. Yep, pray in one hand and crap in the other, then let me know which hand gets filled first.

Not a Catholic here, so maybe I shouldn't interject my opinion. Why not build the stadium at the Basilica site? Then throw in a state casino nearby and maybe a couple of porn stores for good measure. Make the Basilica pass the plate every Sunday to help fund the new Vikings stadium. Then we can all go worship the mighty dollar at the new stadium. The Basilica was there first, but when has something like that mattered to a politician's agenda?
