holman - I'm imagining you are in the target demographic of Burger King and their new home delivery service. There are a lot worse things these folks could be doing. The "sad state" of health care in this country is the obesity epidemic and basic laziness to keep one's self in good shape.

I tried this once and it lasted ten days. Yes, days. My knees hated it. That was dumb of me. But this is an inspiring story; it's great.

I ran for 20 years but then one of my knees became arthritic and I had to stop. I'm convinced that it is a small minority of people who can run after age 50 or 60; most people's knees won't handle it. I still stay in shape... there are many ways to stay in shape that are less impactive than running.

I occasionally do a one month challenge in which I run everyday with a 1 mile minimum but I could never be that rigid about it for years and years.

I knew Steve Gathje near the beginning of his streak when we ran at St. John's together. Then his streak was in days, not years, but still a bit crazy. Reminds me of a trip to Notre Dame when he thought he had crossed into Eastern Standard Time and the next day without having run. He didn't think everyone else in the car was so funny...and he did get his run un.
