Another article with a headline claiming development is taking place. The very small percentage of the people that actually read the article will learn that no development of significance really is occurring, but development is being talked about. So in other words, development is still pretty dead.

Media - please keep up the hard work "selling" the recovered economy. Obama is up for reelection, so the "glass is half full" for the next ten months. There will be no media created quasi "recession" like there was when Bush was up for reelection in 2004.

For the rest of the state, it's our ticket to bankruptcy.

"Cities along the route see train as the ticket to economic growth. Along Northstar line, train is seen as ticket to development." What are these people drinking and/or smoking?

Light rail ridership is so heavily subsidized... Sheesh. This European pipe dream of the Progressive element is killing the economy of most cities and the nation. In the USA we drive. Even if you take the bus or train, you probably drove to the Park n Ride. The teeeeeny weeeeeny percentage of the population that actually uses only public transportation is doing so only because the rest of us who drive to work are paying for it.

A lot of expectations for a train that only runs 6 times a day each direction.

Do any of you people ever get outside the borders of Minnesota, or at least outside the airports when you do travel. We are so far behind many other cities, and not just the East Coast, when it comes to rail options that it isn't even funny anymore. What do you think all the Baby Boomers are going to do when they hit 70-75 years old? If driving is their own option, get ready for some clogged freeways as they cruise at 50 in a 60 zone. I'm 54, my day will come. I want other options than jockeying with NASCAR wanna-bes.

Was that recession of 2008 also made up? My employer laid off more than 20 percent of our staff in July 2008, 6 months before President Obama took office. We've been able to hold steady since even in the face of every Republican effort to stall out the economy again so they can garner more votes from the clueless.

The entire interstate system and state highway system are transit orientated development. No one would live in Anoka County and commute into one of the downtowns if the tax payers didn't build roads for them. Unfortunately, the road+oil+auto system uses a very high percentage of GDP just to get to work.

Read the news. 20-30% of the world's oil passes through a strait the Iranians are threatening to cut off. If they aquire nuclear weapons, they'll be able to control almost a third of the world's oil. Right now, we're trying to talk China and Japan out of buying Iranian oil. It'd be a lot easier if we could supply them with our own or at least promise them supplies. We can't do that because our commuters refuse to get off tax-subsidized interstate and support projects like commuter rail. We might have enough for ourselves, but only if we conserve and use it wisely. These people supporting commuter rail are true patriots. Get on bikes; get in trains. Those who needlessly use oil are compromising the country.
