It can be breathtaking to watch, but it's also a prime reason for the disturbing number of head injuries.

The game is fast but there is no excuse for the level of disrespectful and dangerous play out there that is outside of the rules. The late hits(after the puck is gone), high hits(punch checks and crosschecks etc.), charging(too many steps and/or leaving your feet) and boarding(especially from behind) needs to be penalized accordingly at all levels of the game to keep it reasonably safe. Keep in mind that these guys do reach speeds of up to 30mph and they play on rock hard ice with boards that are pretty much unforgiving too. When arena football seson starts you will see thick pads on the boards and they only reach top speeds of about 20mph. Make the call....NO exceptions and NO excuses !!!

I'm all for getting rid of the trapezoid(for every Turco there was a Roloson or Roy), and no touch icing, and how about calling boarding and charging consistently and maybe even make boarding a double minor or major. /////// If you allow obstruction you will faze out the smaller more skilled players all over again.

I should have said to make boarding a mandatory major. I forgot that it's at the ref's discretion, probably because it's not called enough.
