Hmmm, last winter they said all of the snow and bitter cold weather was due to global warming and now this year it's a bit warmer than average and it's still being blamed on global warming. I'm confused. It sort of reminds me of going into a restaurant to get the 'home style' food they serve there and then when you go to the grocery store, you end up buying 'restaurant style' food to make at home. So confusing. I also seem to remember that just 20 years ago saving the dolphins was all the rage but these days nobody give a hoot about the dolphins. Global warming is just another fad cause to keep us all from looking at the real problems we have here in America. I like this weather so I'm hoping the trend of warmer winters and summer continues.

Duh! Here's an idea: stay off the lakes. What is the matter with these people - you can't go a year without sitting in a freezing (well, not hits year) house on a lake? How ridiculous. I see an opportunity to help balance the state budget.

Global warming implies extremes, higher highs and lower lows, worse blizzards, droughts and storms. I agree with the person in the article, don"t know if it is GW but thongs do seem to be changing.

As an ice fisherman, I have not put out my house yet, but will probably next week if the temps stay down. To those who don't know ice houses for the most part are heated, I keep mine at a balmy 85 degrees when I'm in it. I don't know anyone who keeps the heat on in a fish house when they are not in it (propane is expensive), as it only takes about 10 minutes to heat them up. The problem with the sinking houses is that the holes opened up with the aid of the wind blowing warm air and perhaps a little too much optimism. For me a winter of warm temps and crummy ice is a bummer, I suppose just like a summer of rain every weekend.

There are obviously some people making comments on here that have never been ice fishing in their lives, and simply don't understand how much it is a part of the culture of the northern states Like Minnesota and Wisconsin, etc. We are just now getting cold enough weather here to start "making ice" thick enough to walk on. We need at least a week or two of this kind of cold to thicken up the ice on the lakes. I've seen good years where the ice was over 48 inches thick, and you had to add an extension on your ice auger to break through the bottom of the ice. But people do need to curb their enthusiasm and stay off the lakes until it is safe!

Ice is never safe. I saw this house and helped yank it out. It was the result of no snow banked around the house and wind blowing on the open holes. It creates a whirlpool that keeps opening up. There is 10-inches plus of ice at this location.
