nobody could know, but i think if this commitment from business and industry had begun in the 70's after the first oil crisis, we would be much better off as a nation.

now, america needs to double down on alternative methods to power our society.

""Ikea, drawing from its Swedish heritage and respect for nature, believes it can be a good business [with an] operating model designed to minimize impacts on the environment," the company said in a statement".---what a concept. Here in America we need to pass laws to get corporations to do even the most common sense things and then enforce the laws when they ignore them. Taking 1 cent from their earnings is anti-capitalism and un-American....or so one side wants us to believe.

Any little thing that could decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, especially from overseas, is a good thing. Go Ikea!

Excellent! Roofs of big box retail stores, factories, and warehouses just might be our greatest untapped source of domestic energy. Acres & acres of unshaded rooftops just waiting for somebody smart enough to plunk down some photovoltaic panels.

"The privately held company... didn't disclose the project's cost." How telling. They also didn't disclose how much government subsidy, how much of a tax break or deduction, or how much premium other subscribers on the grid will have to pay for any excess generation. More touchy-feely fluff from the Strib. Bill G.

lotus65- solar panels today still are not even close to matching multiple other methods of electrical production on cost. That was more true for every year back to the 70's. When it makes economic sense to go green, every company will do it. Until then, they need to be bribed with tax credits and deductions and guaranteed markets for excess production on sunny days, even if no one needs that electricity, at the point of the government's gun. Bill G.

We already have hundreds of millions of acres of heat absorption panels gathering heat from the sun. They are the fields of plowed black ground, absorbing extra heat instead of reflecting it back, as yellow prairie grass would. Bill G.

Are panels made in USA? Solar panels and tax credits go hand in hand. If they were cheap to make everyone would have them. It's free power from the sun.

Joe- "Are panels made in USA? Solar panels and tax credits go hand in hand" Please explain; as far as I know, the tax credits for putting them on your roof don't change dependent on the manufacturers origin. If they did, the US would be instantly sued in the World Trade Court. Bill G.
