It's time for the politicians to get out of the way and get this built in Arden Hills
The NFL is a NINE BILLION DOLLAR PER YEAR ENTITY!!! ~ NINE BILLION DOLLARS!!!How 'bout something like this. ~ The owners/players take TWO BILLION DOLLARS off the top each year. ~ With the TWO BILLION DOLLARS, they build two new stadiums each year. That's a new stadium for each of the 32 NFL teams every 16 years. ~ Then, the owners and players split the remaining SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS.I don't care HOW they split the SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS, 50-50, 60-40, 40-60, It's their money! That would certainly solve the stadium problem, even though the BILLIONAIRES would have a few bucks less, and the MILLIONAIRES would have a few bucks less, I'm absolutely sure they would get by just fine!!!
The Dome works fine. It may not be nice to look at, but neither is the team that plays there. If Wilf isnt making enough money in this business, then do what the rest of us do when times are tight: cut expenses. Maybe start by selling off that 19 million dollar condo in NYC.
Just as a lot of us anticipated all along - this ends before it begins because the votes aren't there to do anything and there's no agreement on even where to begin. No surprise and no one's fault. There never was any public support for any site or plan since they all relied on having to increase local taxes, waiving referendums, and overriding charters. Eventually all the politicians would be doing is fighting against their own constituents. I do appreciate Sen. Senjem's frank and honest assessment of the current situation. However, if the Vikings actually want to try to get a stadium approved this year maybe they should hustle on down to Shakopee first thing tomorrow rather than clinging to their stance that Arden Hills is the only option they'll consider.
If someone can explain to me the need for more parking I'd love to hear it. I'm pretty sure that the Dome has been filled many, many times. I've never heard anyone say that the Dome was only 80% filled because people were circling the stadium and couldn't find a spot.
Anyone who thinks the Arden Hills site would really cost only about 1.1 billion is nuts. Guarantee you it at least runs 2 billion with the toxic cleanup and infrastructure costs.
Agree with tvclemson, although I would prefer that location as well, knowing the past use of that site, and the fact that it was back when nobody really cared what they buried underground, that location could become the money pit of the millenium.
"Thursday is deadline day for where the Vikings will play" Really? This will go down to the wire the last day of session.
Give Zygi the Dome property to upgrade or replace using his and the NFL's own money and Zygi's development expertise. He gets full ownership, all revenue from concessions, naming rights, PSLs, Super Bowls, Final Fours, concerts, monster truck rallies, college and high school sports (the list goes on and on, right?). BC Place in Vancouver did their remake in 18 months -- the revamped Metrodome could be ready for the 2013 season if he starts right now. Do it, Zygi -- that's all the public subsidy you're going to get in Minnesota, and more than a real entrepreneur would need.
Get this thing done in 2012. I support the stadium but no matter where you stand I think we call all agree we do not want to hear about this in the news for another year.
