Millions are saved in heating costs, plowing costs, etc. so far. Don't worry, we will get our snow. In the meantime, enjoy the warm and dry weather. Sorry, Stribune, do better than this for a sad story.

Sorry to hear it, but they had a banner year last year. When you rely on the weather for business, it's a chance you take every year. As a previous poster pointed out, people are saving money in a lot of ways thanks to this mild weather. I have to say, I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Wonder how much money the snow plow drivers really claim the money they make anyway. The bigger firm yes, butthe little guyd did very well last year.

Businesses may be suffering, but I'm confident others are doing much better since more people are venturing out instead of just staying in from the cold. Not to mention how much money the cities are saving on snow plowing, though that's probably offset by how much they scalp from towing.

We're well positioned to benefit in aggregate from climate change.

For every business that is suffering, there is one that is benefiting. As an electrician I can tell you this immensely helps the construction industry when you don't have to deal with the cold and snow. You can get a lot more done in a shorter amount of time.

I agree with most of the people on here. Not having to fix an ice dam is a good thing, not a bad thing. People are saving ridiculous amounts of money that they can divert into other expenses or savings. The Star Trib should at least make the point that there is an up side here.

New Years Eve/Day we might have had an inch and a half of snow, tops. The man who plows for me came on the yard at 5 a.m., tore up my lawn and plowed new gravel, dirt, sod, (with a bit of white snow mixed in) - I've been trying to fix my lawn every day since. It's criminal to be so money hungry and unethical!

It's hard to have sympathy for those that profit from the misery of others. Let's hope this Winter is the first of many without snow.
