Even excluding this year's football run (and last year's quarterfinal appearance), the D1 move has been amazing. NCAA tournament appearances in volleyball, softball (advancing to the Super Regional), soccer, and men's basketball. Roll Herd!!

Gophers should conduct a feasibilty study on going to Div.II; maybe they could contend in a few years.

Sometimes bold moves are, even in the face of criticism, the best moves. I just hope the BCS wonks see that a bold move to some sort of playoff for the FBS (aka - the real D-1) is better for the future, too. Good job, NDSU and SDSU.....and I'm swallowing pride saying that since I went to Moorhead State (and also Bemidji State).

Actually 6 old NCC schools are in D1 now, Northern Colorado was the first to go followed by the SU's then the U's and now Omaha. SCSU should drop football (sorry, stadium is too small and no room for expansion) but they would do just fine in everything else, give MN kids another MN option for BB, Baseball, Softball, etc.

Comparing the number of division one schools in our 4 neighboring states, it makes absolutely no sense Minnesota has only one division school. This is especially evident every year at the NCAA basketball tournament when small school teams from various states make some noise in the tourney. It's enjoyable for the whole state to follow these teams, but Minnesotans don't get that opportunity.

It's great that the 4 Dakota schools are giving Minnesota athletes a opportunity to play D-1 sports. It's disappointing that none of the state's other universities; Duluth, Mankato and St. Cloud are making the move. Unless you can skate, the U is it for D-1 kids to play in-state.

Most of the naysayers were Whioux fans that would rather keep playing Minn-Crookston.
