How can Massie's Catherine the Great be a "masrterpiedce" when he knows no Russian and lttle histry?? Howhas he foolede so many readers? It isa dreadful booki that should embarrass the 82 yr old author! The biblio is a joke! He righteously skips the notorious "hore story," apparently unaware that it's all over theInternet! His book contains many errors in dates, names, eventsm etc. MaNY BETTER BOOKS EXIST, ESP THOSE BY dE mADARIAGA, dIXON,AND aLEXANDER, ALL OF WHOM USE PRIMARY DOCUMENTS IN rUSSIAN AND KNOW THE HISTORIOGRAPHY WELL.
