Difference makers in Minnesota sports: 12 for 2012

Having endured a hugely forgettable sports year — the Lynx and NSC Minnesota Stars soccer team notwithstanding — Minnesota fans begin the New Year with a sense of hope. Ricky Rubio looks as good as the hype that preceded his arrival, the Wild look like a playoff team and things have to improve for the Gophers, who didn’t get a revenue program — football plus men’s basketball and hockey — into a postseason in 2011.

Granlund's lacrosse-style goal is nothing but a gimmick. They ought to be disallowed.

nothing but a gimmick goal...wow...tough crowd. How about the moments preceding where we deeked two defenders out of their skates and then executed the "gimmick" with cat like reflexes in about a quarter of second. This kid can stick handle in a phone booth, has eyes in his ears and in the back of his head...leave it to Star Tribune posters to STILL be negative on the kid. Unreal.

I hate when the media (KFAN, STRIB) say "Minnesota" when they mean "Minneapolis" teams. I'm pretty sure the UMD (which stands for University of MINNESOTA Duluth) won the NCAA Men's Hockey Championship. It even happened in St. Paul. Why do you guys pretend that didn't happen?

beverly, why should it be disallowd, he kept his stick below the cross bar, thus no high sticking, whats the problem? Granlund could be a superstart. People in Finland talk about him in the same breath as the Finnish Flash, Temmu Selanne, not saying he will be Temmu off the bat, but kid could be special. I bought his Finland shirt at a Wild game, and they were almost sold out, lady at the counter told me that behind Heater and Clutterbuck it is their third highest selling player merchandise.
