Since their last Rose Bowl appearance, the Gophers have by many measures ranked with the worst teams in major college football.

Things will get better for the Gophers, they just need to get out of the Dome and get an open air on campus stadium.

Patrick, the ULTIMATE local football embarrassment is the vikings and their 52 year (and counting) run with NO Super Bowl / World Championship title to speak of!!! Now that is what I call a loser jinxed franchise.

Patrick, you are free to write your article as to what to do about this futility anytime you want. I have been an active, game going fan since the mid 60's and I have posted what we need to do and what we must avoid doing. You sit back and take shots at the program, any coach, every group of players and the fans. You should step up to keyboard and tell us what to do so we can get you back to the Rose Bowl.

The Gophers have been bad for a long time. We hear you Reusse, the Gophers stink, you have said it a million times. I'd prefer you didn't write another word about Gopher football until they're winning, because that would be news, and something worth writing about. Thanks.

"Once in a lifetime opportunity" is often over-used to describe momentous events, but one would have to seriously consider the ramifications of not going to Pasendena if the Gophers were to somehow get there.

If the Gophers were ranked number 1 in the nation, they probably would not get a BCS bowl bid because of the fans' aversion to traveling any farther than to the lake, leaving half the BCS bowl stadium empty...

Good article Phatrick...finally someone with some knowledge of football telling us how bad the gophers are. Who knew?

I have grand kids with degrees from Oklahma State, Baylor, Oklahoma U. and Texas tech. All were ranked the top 25 this year. My wife has her degree from the University of Minnesota and it is worth as much or more than my grand kids degrees. The U of M does not exist for some bowl game. Nice but not that important. The Vikings exist to play football. Get it!

BCanniffDec. 29, 11 1:54 AM

You forgot to mention that the U of M is also the second largest school in the country with a bigger athletic budget and more alumni and fan base than most schools and yet still manages to be this futile despite such a glorious past history in football. It is amazing anyone still cares enough to support this team, when we have all those other local teams to choose from. The obvious answer is the people in charge of the football program at the U are completely incompetent.

Mr. Reusse, haven't you heard of the recent hiring of Coach Kill? He will turn things around, he promised.
