This should have never been an issue, and Republicans made themselves look like political amateurs by playing partisan politics on an issue that should've been passed months ago without a second of debate. If conservatives want even the slightest chance to beat Obama and/or take back the senate, they need to learn to pick their battles wisely from here on out. Legislative gridlock can be effective if used intelligently, but not on every single issue that appears on the house floor. Hopefully they realize that driving the economy into another recession is a shameful and disgusting tactic to try and get Obama voted out.

“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” ~Mitch McConnell, Senate Minority Leader, (R-Ky.), October 2010 --- Not job, the economy, balancing the budget or any of the dozens of other crises that confront the country. Winning the White House, not governing the country, is their number one priority. Is it any wonder that the government is in gridlock? And I still can't believe that he said this to the media out loud.

Higher unemployment, Tripling of the deficits, Pushing the biggest divide this country has ever had!! Thank you McConnel for Trying to save this country from the worst president ever.

I can't wait to see how the democrats handle this one. "The Payroll tax cut was important to get the economy going". But, for 10 years they have been telling us that the Bush, Now Obama, tax cuts did nothing for the economy. So, come Fall, Which will it be. I know what they will demand. It is obvious. "Raise taxes on EVERYONE BUT ME".

Actually, if nothing changes in our government between now and next December(ie Democrat President, Republican House) it's gonna turn out to be a huge win for the liberals. Continued gridlock insuring that nothing gets done will be default end the temporary Bush tax cuts and make some huge cuts to the military budget while preserving Social Security which is not part of the general fund. So, if you think the GOP hosed up this two month deal, just wait and see what the fall out could be next December.
