Yes, this does seem like a rather snarky exercise: Why ridicule those like Don Mincher, Danny Thompson, Roy Smalley—all of whom who were solid professionals who contributed to the game of baseball in various ways? Cuddyer fits into that tradition, and it is nothing to be ashamed of.
