As a Chaska native and now a Shakopee resident, maybe the planners here can take some queues from what was already done across the river. Both cities were once established river towns that have since boomed with new development over the last 20 years. I think most people would agree that Chaska has a much better ‘feel’ in terms of how things were built all while keeping a small-town appearance. And just take a look at all of the parks, trails, and the community center that Chaska has to offer. Shakopee had an opportunity to create a similar vision that our neighbor has already put into fruition. Lets just hope our new leaders are not too late to the game, I would hate to see us end up like another Apple Valley, Burnsville, or Lakeville. All of these are towns that would love to have a historic downtown and you would otherwise not know which one you were dropped in if blindfolded.
