OK Gov. Dayton and all other stadium supporters, take up the offer made on Ch 5 last night by the operator of the newly refurbished Vancouver stadium and visit it. It was done at half the cost of the proposals here and is beautiful. This is a solution that would make some sense and get some support. I bet it would even be able to pass a referendum.

The stadium project certainly gets a lot trickier when it rests on the willingness of the Legislature to impose a tax on Ramsey County residents who neither support nor have a voice in it. Makes you wonder whether the two county commissioners who are behind this are representing their constituents or just their own egos. Had they accepted the reality from the beginning that there was never going to be a sales tax imposed on their residents without a referendum it's unlikely that they would have gone this far down the stadium road for which all they'll probably end up with is a lot of wasted effort, angry constituents, and well-deserved embarrassment. Scrambling now to find a tax which doesn't require a referendum in order to placate the Vikings only worsens the mess. Why not just tell the Vikings the truth? You did what you could but it didn't work out. If the Wilfs want so desperately to be in Arden Hills they can come up with a plan to make it happen.

@murphydog - I couldn't agree more with you. I was stunned when I saw that report and what an excellent job of remodeling was done by them. When I think that the Vikings have consistently refused to even consider anything like this it makes me wonder about the backbones of our elected officials. I would simply tell the Vikings to take a look - here's what your new home's going to look like. If you still want something built from scratch then you can do it yourself.

Another reason to ignore the New Jersey land developer and let him take the Vikings to wherever he can find people willing to line his filthy pockets even more. When are people going to wake up to the fact that this whole foolishness is about land develop -- not a Vikings stadium?

These people are so determined to shove this stadium down our throats and force us to pay for it. People need to really reasses who our leaders are and whether they have our best interests in mind. I see they always have their own in mind. I guess that's what's important.

"(Bagley) The sooner we get this design process moving, the more likely it is we can get into a new stadium in 2015. There's no reason to wait until final legislative approval until we get this design process started." This is the most stupid thing I've heard so far. No reason to wait? How about waiting to learn that Ramsey County citizens and the state are not chipping in? Bagley keeps using 'stadium-approved futurespeak' to try and wear us down. Not gonna work this time. Zygi, do a Request For Qualifications on yourself to see if you can get a bank loan for the entire thing. If the Ramsey County Board approves this joke of a process step, they're all Bennett's fools.

I don't like to pop the balloon of Ramsey County, but the architects are already registered in the State of Minnesota. Ramsey County has no authority to issue an architects registration. One more note, the architect, engineer and land surveyor companies are based out of Minnesota.

You gotta wonder why all the urgency from the Vikings... could it be that they want to get this funded by the taxpayers before the people figure out that the NFL just announced new TV contracts that give the owners a 60 percent increase! Don't you think they can now pay for their own damn stadium!

Interest rates are at rock bottom. This is the best time for Vikings LLC to borrow money from the markets and build their own stadium with private capital.

That, of course, assumes that Wilf and his partners have honor which cannot be borrowed from the markets.
