Reusse: Quiche, chardonnay and the new Blackhawks/Wild rivalry

Only bad blood -- or a blood-soaked green sweater - will rekindle the fire that was Blackhawks/North Stars.

As a North Stars fan in the 80's, I remember those Chicago games like they were yesterday. They had Secord. We had Plett. We had Dino. They had Denis Sevard. We had good looking, no GREAT looking uniforms. They had, well, the same things they had back then. A decent logo surrounded by boring. I think the new rivalry will happen quicker than you might think, because these two teams (and Detroit) will slug it out at the top of the new division next year, and as Detroit and Chicago do not have the prospects the Wild has, they will hate us as they look up at us in 2013 and beyond. Living in Illinois now, I'll be back home in Minny by next year, and I will be excited to see the Minnesota-Chicago rivalry rekindled. Now, if we could just get rid of the god-ugly red/green home unis, tank the current alternate greens, and go back to the ORIGINAL green unis (the best hockey uniforms ever), that woul dbe perfect.

I WAS A SEASON TICKET HOLDER UNTIL THE END OF THE STARS, AND THERE WAS NOTHING BETTER THAN A STARS/HAWKS HOME GAME. IT WAS STU GRIMSON AND VAN DORP VERSUS CHURLA AND MCCRAE, IT WAS BELLOWS GETTING A CHEAP SHOT FROM CHELIOS. NOTHING BETTER THAN THE 1991 PLAYOFF SERIES AFTER BRIAN PROPP'S OVERTIME WINNER IN THE FIRST GAME AT CHICAGO. IT WAS MARK TINORDI DROPPING STEVE LARMER AND THAN BEATING UP MANSON. IT WAS EDDIE BELFOUR CHOPPING AT BROTEN'S KNEES. YES, GREAT HOCKEY AND I HAVE THESE MEMORIES ON VHS. THE NORTH STAR FANS WERE MORE INTENSE THAN TODAY'S FANS WHO SEEM TO LEAVE THE GAMES BEFORE IT'S OVER. NOTHING CAN REPLACE THE STARS AND HAWKS WARS OF YESTERDAY.

Wow! Those were the days! Wild v Hawks- I'd agree that it's a bit more gentrified than Stars v. Hawks. Most of the players on both clubs today still have all their teeth... and not much in the permanent scar department either.

Oh - - - - I remember Secord. I remember those as the best games to be at the Met. Hawks/Stars - - - - - and the need for about 10 refs:)

It is time to get over the North Stars; they play in Dallas now and are not coming back.

This is just another variation of a column that Mr. Reusse writes from time to time. The headline should read.....It's not 1975 and I wish it was because everything was better back then.

How many stories are we going to have to read about rivalries now that the conferences are realigning? Two nights ago, Winnipeg was our biggest rival. Now it's Chicago. I swear if anyone calls Columbus our newest rival, I will go all Willie Plett on whomever dares say it.

Zygi Wilf might become Norm Green II.Lofty Minneapolis should realize that.Losing the North Stars was business, nothing personal.Norm Green saw greener pastures in Dallas. He could have cared less about the Blackhawks-North Star playoffs.Owners don't care about fans feelings. Its all about filling seats and making money. The Hockey fans in Minnesota supported the North Stars in spite of Walter Bush, the Gund Brothers and Norm Green. The memories of a packed Met Center on a bitterly cold night are long gone;I miss the North Stars.

djmcmanus & floridascott - It's just people reliving some fun memories. Nobody thinks the North Stars are coming back. I still hear stories about the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Minneapolis Lakers and enjoy them for what they are, good stories as well as some history. Nothing wrong with that.
