Barre workout creating a buzz

Women -- and some men -- in the Twin Cities are flocking to ballet-infused workouts with the goal of achieving a dancer's body.

I tried this once. I consider myself someone who is in really good shape and I lasted about 30 minutes. I was wicked hard.

Thea Politis taught this class at her Bodyworks studio in the 80s. It was a killer, but put me in the best shape of my life. I'm too old to try it now!

I recently finished a barre-inspired community ed class. I felt like it was pain but no gain -- I'd be shaking during class trying to keep going, but I didn't see any change in my body. It's possible I just wasn't doing it right, but if so, then it's far too complicated a workout for me to want to do regularly.
