"May I zee your papers, bitte"? What's unamerican about that?
let me guess.. 5-4 and leaning to the right.
Err.. 5-3 if Kagan isn't on the bench.
The requirement of carrying papers for aliens is a US Federal Law…just like when I jump off the plane in Mexico, Central America, South America, Europe, Asia or almost everywhere in the world I have to carry my passport! If the US Fed Government would actually enforce immigration laws Arizona would not have to lift a finger!
Good that the Court agreed to grant cert to this case. The intent may have been legitimate, but the law as it stands is an overreach of constitutional limits. This law turns local law enforcement into federal agents, and as was ruled in Printz v. U.S. (1997), local law enforcement cannot be compelled to act as a federal agent. It is not the police' job to enforce immigration laws, that task is up to the federal government.
Remember, our laws presume innocence (except when you fly, then we are all potential terrorists). The Arizona law will be defeated, just like Printz, by the conservative justices winning the day.
Overpopulation, congestion, urban sprawl, crumbling infrastructure, overcrowded schools and emergency rooms, lack of affordable housing, vanishing farm land and green space, diminishing resources, crime, pollution, depressed wages, increased tax burdens, the balkanization of our communities, the overall decline in quality of life, are all the result of unconstrained immigration.
Between Arizona detaining brown-skinned people because they "look funny" and arresting those exercising their First Amendment rights of peaceable assembly, the state has become quite fascist. Maybe secession is the right path for Arizona AND Texas! Forty-eight states worked just fine before.
I'm not in favor of these new immigration laws at the state level, however I AM quite curious what the impact would be if we removed illegal immigrants from our communities. Jobs, schools, tax burdens, etc. Again, I'm not in favor of these laws, just curious.
It is time to get tough on illegal aliens.....
there is a process. follow it, or leave. that simple. and they should be national laws. the same all over, so there are no loop hole against follow the correct procedures
