Christian Ponder is reeling, but he needs to stay on the field to learn from his rookie mistakes.

I'd call having Webb as a (very intriguing) back up a luxury. Look what other teams are able to turn "very intriguing" back ups into... high draft picks. That is, after another year we decide not to hold onto him. I'm cool with either route. But I'll back Ponder for the remainder of the season.

As fun as Webb was to watch, he averaged just 7 yards per completion. Before today's games, there were 18 QBs (including Ponder) who averaged more than that per ATTEMPT. So Ponder has to remain the starter, but I wouldn't mind seeing Webb get ~5 snaps per game as a change-of-pace.

So far, Ponder hasn't learned from his previous mistakes. He stares down a WR and throws it to a CB who reads his eyes and jumps the route. Christian can't keep on repeating these same mistakes week after week or he won't be the future much longer.

The Ponder-holics, as Dan Barriero has aptly named them, are the same people who "couldn't believe" how fortunate the Vikings were to sign such an "immense talent" like Charles Johnson in the off-season (see http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/blogs/126524158.html). The facts are: 1) Ponder was NOT heavily recruited out of high-school and only got a scholarship from FSU when another player was kicked off the program for discipline reasons; 2) while at FSU, Ponder failed to have a signature season, or even a signature game in three years as a starter; 3) scouts believed he was a Matt Cassel/Elvis Grbac clone -- a third-round talent worth taking in the SECOND round for a QB starved team. The Vikings incompetent "triangle of authority" completely reached on him, and now they're going to pass on a legitimate QB prospect with star potential like Matt Barclay in next year's draft and in a couple seasons they'll be right back in the same position. Pull a Kolb/Schaub, trade Ponder for a player and a pick and draft Barclay if he comes out.

If Robert Griffin III comes out and enters the draft and the Vikings don't take him with the #2 pick than the Vikes deserve another 10 years of misery. I have been a Vikings fan since 1961 and suffered through all the pain and tragedy, tempered with regular season success, but I tell you that RG3 is not only better than Barclay, he is the qb the Vikings need to build around. The Pats have Brady, the Colts had Payton, the Pack has Aaron and the Vikes COULD have RG3. Knowing the way the Vikes draft, though, they will either trade out of the pick or draft an OL out of Utah State.....

Vikings... don't be stubborn! Take Barkley or Robert Griffin in the draft! They will be twice as good in the nfl as ponder will ever be.

Yes, Webb is exciting...WITH HIS LEGGS! As a passer he'll never get the job done. When it's a pass play his first thought is RUN. that works in college, not in the pros. All those that are saying "take Barkley or Griffen" what would you then do with Ponder? Loadholt & Cook, both 2nd rd picks are clear cut busts but your not yelling to give up on them. Yet Ponder, the 12th pick is thrown under the bus so quickly....Give me a break!

Ponder keeps saying he needs to learn from his mistakes. He keeps making the same mistakes week after week, and that is throwing the ball to the other team. Are you color blind or what?

I thought after last season Joe Webb should have been given a chance to be the starter this year, and they should have used their first round pick to draft a player of greater need. But when they drafted Ponder, I assumed they'd find a way to get Webb on the field, and commit to turning him a receiver. I hope the Ponder pick doesn't end up being a wasted pick like Troy Williamson was 6 years ago. Webb is too good of an athlete to be on the bench.
