If all the players on the team agree that they need to play better defense, then why didn't they play better defense last year?

argonbeast34Dec. 10, 1110:23 PM

"Myself, this guy over here, Kevin, Wes [Johnson], we're way more athletic, way more smarter than what we showed last year." .........way more smarter? *facepalm*

tceoguy, I agree with your comment. The players had no defensive integrity last year. Several players, whom I won't name, have very low BB IQ's. Randolph and Rubio are the only two who have naturally high BB intelligence. Hopefully it will rub off on their teammates.

way more smarter !!!!!???????? Exactly. Forget Basketball IQ, let's start with basic IQ and the fact that a lot of them didn't finish college and didn't pay attention in high school or college classes (when and if they attended class). You know. You know. You know.

Fortunately we're not going to Target Center to watch a grammar rodeo, Celtics33. Players are an extension of the coaching staff; the defensive end was clearly not a priority last year. If coaches don't make players accountable, it's not going to happen.

Anyone and everyone on this team is throwing the previous coaching staff under the bus. Not that they are wrong, but it is interesting.

The players seem to STILL be blaming their youth and the coaches. How about looking in the mirror? Defense is largely about desire and commitment along with communication. IMO this is why K Love does NOT deserve a max contract at this point. When he discovers the other end of the floor and can actually make scoring at least occasionally difficult for whomever he is guarding, some kind of contract extension should rightfully be explored. As for Ridnour, apparently he never thought of showing some veteran leadership and speaking up in practice or on the court. But then again, he is in the bottom 10 percent of NBA point guards in defensive ability, so what's he going to say? I think there's a song called "Blame it on my youth;" sounds like the players should compose another one: "Blame it on the previous coach." Didn't Michael Jackson write one about the man in the mirror? Don't get me wrong, Rambis was terrible, but the players were even worse. If I was a player and worse than my coach, I'd say nothing other than I need to improve leaps and bounds, and I intend to show everyone what I can do defensively this year. The prosecution rests. Go, Wolves! (But you ain't going anywhere without a wholehearted commitment to defense as individuals and a group.)

Fortunately . . .

This issue with the defense is not new!! Anyone whom chose to listen to actually to Rambiss heard him complain about this frequently and often over the past 2 years. The players did not listen to him.Now let us see if they listen to Adelman.Getting young players excited to play defense is not an easy task. Now that they have a so called experienced coach there should be no further excuses.

It's good to hear the player saying that their defense was horrendous. Next step is for them to embrace their new coach and do what he tells them to do, take responsibility, and work as a team. Hey guys, we are rooting for you. Let's see the growth. Go Wolves!
